8 CAN'T WAIT
The public policy committee worked with Campaign Zero ( a national organization who works with police departments nationwide) to address policy changes that includes 8 Can't Wait Initiative. Presently the KCK police department has two of the 8. Deputy Chief Pam Waldeck continues to work with us and is in the process of working with staff to identify other policy changes campaign zero may have missed. We will be having an upcoming meeting with an attorney and policy writer from the police department in our next Public Policy meeting.
YOUTH AND PREVENTION COMMITTEE IS COLLABORATING WITH THRYVE AND KCK SCHOOLS TO SERVE THE YOUTH IN OUR COMMUNITY!

Ardith Shared Ride Along
I did a ride-a-long with the police last night. I would highly recommend the committee do this. They encourage and appreciate having citizens do it. They kept telling me thank you for doing it. It was eye opening especially the amount of documentation and time it takes to do it, for every time they make contact, respond to scene for whatever reason, etc. The Officers I talked with were so professional and kind. The officer I rode with showed me what he does, how he completes the documentation and the statues behind items, and he was so patient with citizens he dealt with. He also invited me to join him outside the car so I could hear what was going on, if I chose to. Only once did he tell me it would be better to stay in the car. I did east patrol, downtown area. They suggested I also do West, and I’m going to do that one as well.
